Rising Volumes Of Covid-19 Patients See USA Hospitals Overwhelmed

True to doctors’ expectations, as reported on CNN, the highly contagious Omicron variant has sent Covid-19 infection numbers soaring, and with this USA hospitals, and healthcare workers are left overwhelmed.

According to John Hopkins University & Medicine, Covid-19 cases have climbed to a whopping 17 334 per day, seeing the highest level of the pandemic so far. CNN adds to this stating that Pediatric Covid-19 hospitalizations are risen substantially, with record highs set over the holiday season. 

USA Hospitals Across The Country See Covid-19 Cases Skyrocketing

Looking at the stats, USA hospitals across the country have seen Covid-19 cases skyrocketing. More specifically, hospitalizations have doubled in Louisiana with 450 patients admitted in one week, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. 

Adding to this, The Washington Post reported that 212 patients were admitted in Florida in one week. Further to this, Houston Methodist reports that a rise in hospital intakes sees 94 percent of Covid-19 cases being Omicron and a huge demand for tests recently.

Across the country, healthcare workers have stressed that the new demands of tests, staff shortages, climbing Covid-19 cases and higher demands for healthcare within local hospitals are straining an already-struggling health system.  

USA Hospitals Across The Country Will See A Further Burden In January 2022

While numbers see a dire situation now, the pandemic and its impact on overwhelmed hospitals is set to get worse. With USA citizens set to return home after holidays and travels, along with children returning to school in January and adults returning to work, as stated on The Washington Post, the fallout from Omicron is expected to be acute. 

Especially with the Omicron variant rendering the highest contagion out of all the Covid-19 variants so far and seeing significant spikes in December 2021. 

USA Citizens Encouraged To Take Increased Precautions To Avoid Further Rise In Hospital Visits In January 2022

As the Omicron variant continues to its heavy toll on the USA healthcare system, with healthcare professionals and workers embracing an unfortunate strain in the near future and difficult weeks ahead, USA citizens are encouraged to take precautions and work with governmental measures.

Considered a long-term phenomenon, locals will have to live with this pandemic and follow more stringent precautionary measures moving forward.  

• While conflicting information from the federal and state government regarding mask-wearing exists, USA citizens are still encouraged to follow health and safety measures, wear a mask and keep their distance from others.
• USA citizens who are vaccinated are urged to get the booster currently available on the market. 
• Locals are encouraged to maintain their healthy, and healthy lifestyles, through increased vitamin and mineral intake, healthy diets and exercise, and sufficient rest.
• Parents are encouraged to vaccinate their children with public health experts warning of a rising number of hospitalizations among unvaccinated children. This, according to The Washington Post. 
• All citizens must make use of available effective infection control, mitigation strategies, and preventative measures. 
• USA citizens are warned against gatherings and to work remotely if possible to avoid exposure to others.
• Those experiencing mild symptoms should avoid interaction with others and must up their medicine, rest, and vitamin intake during periods of mild symptoms
• USA citizens are urged to get vaccinated which defangs the virus’s worst consequences and could potentially avoid hospital visits.
• As delivered by the Biden Administration, USA citizens are encouraged to make use of the 500 billion free tests set to be delivered in January 2022. They are also encouraged to do regular tests.

With Omicron rendering worsening effects, measures taken in the early times of Covid-19 are not sufficient enough now. In current pandemic times,  an increased effort is to be taken on all counts for USA citizens.

National Guard troops are being mobilized to support hospital workers, free at-home tests are going to be delivered and pop-up clinics are currently being established around the country. These are only some of the many measures done by authorities, the government, and the USA administration. With much effort already done, and to be done in the new year, it is hoped these measures, along with measures taken by locals, will help overwhelmed hospitals and further ease a strained health system struggling for heavy rises in Covid-19 cases
